My work is a cathartic means of self-expression deriving from traumatic experiences in my life and an uncontrollable fluctuation of moods. Making art is therapeutic approach to achieving mental balance. It also cleanses my conscience, my heart, and my mind of tragic thoughts, dreams, or events that I have encountered.
I work using acrylic paint, spray paint and screen printing on canvas. The printed element offers a graphic melody of repetitive symbols. Color plays an equally important role, in that the use of complimentary colors assists in the overall idea of polarity.
My most recent body of work, called Unattractive Opposites, relates to the “hot and cold” of moods and behavior. These constant fluctuations are exhausting, but have inspired this series of work. Throughout the work is a repetition of graphic heart rhythms, which exhibits my personal variances of self. The application of various mediums differs from piece to piece. Many manic outbursts of rage and slashes of pigment and contrarily subtle, melancholy of loose drips inching down in combination with a conscious application of marks become a mindful balance between my moods, leading toward my overall goal of equanimity.
